The project

In Mauritania, nearly one in two people diagnosed with breast cancer dies from it (IARC, GLOBOCAN 2024). The main reason is well known: the cancer is found too late. ROSE Initiative was created to change that.

ROSE brings together, in plain words, what everyone should know about breast cancer: 15 chapters that read like stories, a breast self-examination guide, the questions to ask the doctor and 127 common myths put to the test.

Acting means knowing where to go: the “S’orienter” section lists hospitals, imaging centres and support associations in Mauritania, with their contacts and sources. ROSE Data presents figures for Mauritania, Africa and the world in charts and maps, and is clear about what the data cannot tell yet.

Our rule: no information without a source. Every figure links to the WHO, IARC, the French National Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society, the US National Cancer Institute, Cancer Research UK or a published study.
